Celebrating Black Music Month with J London

Before we get to the conversation above in today’s podcast with our continue celebration of Black Music Month with a special musical guest, J London.

I must address this topic: “IT'S TIME TO SHUTDOWN ALL NIGHTCLUBS HERE IN COLUMBUS!”

With the recent mass shootings in nightclubs here in Columbus, Ohio, is it time for all nightclubs to be shut down? The most recent shooting at The Avalon on 205 N. 5th Street on Friday, June 14, 2024, involved four people getting shot, including the death of two security guards: 27-year-old Desmond Taylor and 36-year-old Ceilin Smith, who were just doing their jobs.

The Growing Problem of Nightclub Shootings

Nightclub shootings have been ongoing here in Columbus, Ohio, all year long, leading to more and more dead bodies. So far, there are no solutions for these shootings, which have been happening not just this year but in recent years.

A Personal Take on the Issue

Well, here's my personal take on this issue. As Black people, when we go out, the purpose is to have a damn good time and relax—not getting hurt, shot, stabbed, and possibly dead. This recent shooting, where Black music was being played, is a total disgrace to Black Music Month as we are supposed to be celebrating its 45th anniversary.

A Community Activist's Perspective

As an award-winning Community Activist, a Contributing Writer for Busters Journal magazine, and the host of The Old School Express on the Unbossed Network, I am totally disgusted with these heinous crimes happening in my city. It's messed up that I have to see and hear these tragic moments that not only destroy the communities here in Columbus but also change the lives of the families of these victims forever.

A Call for Change

Therefore, until people can calm the hell down, it's time to ABOLISH all nightclubs. After all, Black men are no longer asking Black women for a dance anyway, so I don't know why these clubs should be open. It's time to not only celebrate Black Music Month but Juneteenth all in peace, love, and harmony. And that, my friend, is REAL TALK.
